Hughes Network Systems (HNS) [NYSE: GMH], a Germantown, Md.-based broadband satellite unit of Hughes Electronics [NYSE: GMH], has won a contract from Utah-based packetPointe Communications, an energy management and equipment and management software supplier. Financial terms were not disclosed. Under the contract, HNS will provide packetPointe with a private network to support multi-site operations for packetPointe’s customers in the food industry. PacketPointe will deploy its IT-based products to monitor, manage and control HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning), refrigeration, lighting, video, and fuel devices through a standard Internet browser that will run over HNS’ DirecWay satellite system.
