Canadian firm MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates [Toronto: MDA] has been awarded a C$1.15 million (US$864,000) contract to upgrade a satellite ground station in Asia for an undisclosed customer. Information processed by the ground station from commercial satellites will be used for agricultural and environmental monitoring, management of natural disasters, emergency preparedness and assessment, and mapping. The upgrade will increase the ground station’s information processing capabilities, including the ability to process data from DigitalGlobe‘s QuickBird high-resolution satellite.
