HNS Supplies Czech Firm with Broadband Satellite Equipment

Hughes Network Systems (HNS), a Germantown, Md.-based broadband satellite unit of Hughes Electronics [NYSE: GMH], has agreed to provide Czech telecommunications firm GiTy with a DirecWay broadband satellite network, including a central operations center and hub. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Currently offering satellite services using HNS’ VSAT network hub and remote terminals, GiTy now will be able to offer new DirecWay broadband services to customers throughout the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Bulgaria. GiTy will be providing high-speed Internet access and business video applications such as distance learning and business television using HNS DW1000 remote satellite terminals. The new operations center enables GiTy to meet the demands of customers in numerous industries, from government agencies to healthcare, banking and energy.
