Alcatel Space and SkyBridge, subsidiaries of Paris-based Alcatel [NYSE: ALA], have agreed to take a combined 17.9 percent stake in SatLynx, a European satellite broadband venture formed by SES Global [Luxembourg: SESG] and Gilat Satellite Networks [Nasdaq: GILTF]. Financial terms were not disclosed.

In related agreements, Alcatel, under contract to SES Global, will expand SatLynx’s product line to include a DVB-RCS (digital video broadcasting-return channel by satellite) platform, enabling broadband Internet access via satellite. Alcatel technological expertise in DVB-RCS open standard will reinforce the SatLynx offering in all market segments, Alcatel officials said. SES and Gilat also have executed an agreement to fund the development of a Ka-band version of Gilat’s Skystar 360E family product line.
