Starz Encore Chairman and CEO John J. Sie is calling on the cable and satellite industries to use a new technology solution to manage spectrum more efficiently. At the National Cable and Telecommunications Association Show being held in Chicago this week, Sie unveiled a concept using high-definition/high-resolution statistical multiplexing (statmux) that he said will enable multichannel service operators to deliver high-definition programming using less bandwidth. He urged his fellow programmers to adopt transmission standards that would select the most appropriate spectrum use for the individual program being transmitted.
