Inmarsat Expects Continued Growth In Data Market
London-based mobile satellite service provider Inmarsat now derives more than half of its revenues from mobile data services, according to President and CEO Michael Storey. And this growth in data services shows no sign of slowing, he added.
In 2002, data revenues increased 25 percent compared to 2001, Storey told SATELLITE TODAY. “Data accounted for 54 percent of our revenues in terms of our on-demand service,” he said. “So far this year, we are seeing the same phenomena in terms of the growth in data services. For us, it is a gratifying vindication in the way we are repositioning the business, but without neglecting voice services. We recognize we will have voice competition, so we believe we are strategically distancing ourselves from the competition by pursuing this mobile data strategy,” he said.
An in-depth interview with Michael Storey can be found in the May 7 issue of Interspace. For more information about subscribing to PBI Media’s satellite newsletters, check out our Web site at https://www.satellitetoday.com.
