Symmetricom [Nasdaq:SYMM] is launching the first micro-controlled intelligent GPS L1 splitter which will enable carriers to comply with the Federal Communications Commission‘s E-911 wireless emergency response requirements.

The SmartSplitter, developed in concert with AT&T Wireless Services, isdesigned to provide a GPS signal to multiple GPS receivers for E911 and to the base stations located within a cell site. Using this splitter removes the requirement to lease for multiple GPS antennas at a site and still stay within the supply current limitations of each GPS receiver. The 1:4 SmartSplitter costs $595 per unit.
