Motorola [NYSE: MOT] and IBM Microelectronics are teaming to develop Motorola Instant GPS, a single-chip, assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) receiver. Due to its small stature, the device can add accurate location sensing to any portable electronics product. It is expected to lead to a new generation of portable electronic products, the companies said.

The unit of IBM [NYSE: IBM] plans to manufacture the new GPS chips for Motorola. At this time, samples are available for OEM suppliers of portable electronic devices.
