Stratos, a provider of remote communications solutions and services, agreed to provide Shell UK Exploration and Production with a satellite communications network for its Goldeneye Platform, due to be deployed next year in Moray Firth, Scotland.

Goldeneye is an unmanned platform that would control offshore oil drilling systems. Stratos will deploy two Ku-band systems on the platform. Stratos also will provide space segment, data equipment and a VSAT terminal onshore. Stratos (Bethesda, Md.) will manage a 3.8 meter antenna at the Shell site at St Fergus, 35 miles north of Aberdeen, Scotland, to provide the main link for data services to and from the installation.
