SES, Our Telekom Expand Partnership to Connect Solomon Islands

Oceaniac regional operator Our Telekom expanded its partnership with SES Networks to improve mobile and internet services within the Solomon Islands archipelago. The agreement includes contracted capacity on SES’ Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) fleet.

Our Telekom and SES already established a 4G/LTE network across the Solomon Islands using the O3b Networks Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) constellation last November. The new contract will increase connectivity in response to increased data consumption from residents and enterprises.

Establishing connectivity across the Solomon Islands has historically been a challenge due to the variety of the nation’s geography and the needs of its internet end-users. The combined GEO-MEO network will work to improve service from the Solomon Islands’ capital city of Honiara to its outer stretches.
