ViaSat has opened its new Asia-Pacific (APAC) headquarters, located in Melbourne, Australia. According to ViaSat, the new office is a signal of growth for the company and represents the need for new technologies and services across data communications in the APAC region specifically.

Establishing Melbourne as the location of its APAC headquarters will enable the company to further build on commitments made to existing customers, including nbn and Qantas, as well as expand its services and support efforts in the region, ViaSat said.

The office will also serve as the base for many of ViaSat’s regional innovations, including its next-generation ultra-high capacity satellite platform known as ViaSat 3. According to the company, ViaSat 3 is poised to deliver more than 1 Tbps of total network capacity to the region, which could power 100 mbps internet service to homes and High Definition (HD) video-streaming Wi-Fi on commercial and government aircraft.

Over the past few years, ViaSat has opened offices in India, and grown its presence within Australia, with three offices in the country and teams in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
