[Via Satellite 12-29-2014] RigNet has acquired 49 percent of the shares of the oilfield communications company Timas Munaicom in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The purchase enables RigNet to provide remote communications services in the country as well as a means to expand to nearby geographies.

“RigNet now has the ability to serve customers within Kazakhstan, with plans to expand more broadly within the Central Asian region,” said Hector Maytorena, RigNet’s group vice president, Eastern Hemisphere.

Munaicom was licensed to provide VSAT services in November 2011 and remains a licensed telecommunications provider in Kazakhstan. RigNet plans to provide services in the country through the acquisition under the same name.
