[Via Satellite 09-08-2014] Timor Telecom, a subsidiary of Portugal Telecom, has gone live on O3b Networks’ “Fiber in the Sky” satellite network. This follows the May 14 announcement that the Portugal Telecom subsidiary had signed a deal with O3b to bring high throughput, low latency capacity to Timor-Leste.

As a one of the first to connect to the O3b network, Timor Telecom is now able to provide customers with high speed broadband service, improving user experience and allowing for more and better services and content. The use of O3b satellites, which are closer to the Earth than conventional geostationary satellites, reduces latency, increases Internet speed and improves voice and video quality for the user.
