[Via Satellite 07-14-2014] Satcom Direct has expanded its Savannah, GA, office to provide additional classrooms for training maintenance technicians, corporate flight attendants and pilots on aircraft cabin satellite communications. The classrooms make up a fully-functioning Cabin Communications Lab, which has a grand opening slated for July 15.

Satcom Direct works with FlightSafety International to provide training for Gulfstream aircraft operators on how to use satcom gear. Gulfstream has partnered with the training initiative to educate aircraft operators through the company’s Total Technical Training (TTT) program. To simulate an aircraft environment, students use equipment from Satcom Direct, Inmarsat, Iridium and ViaSat.

“Students work with the exact same systems that are used in the aircraft including Gulfstream’s Broad Band Multi-Link (BBML) Gen 3 Advanced Cabin Server,” said Scott Hamilton, Satcom Direct chief strategy officer. “The expanded facility allows for more participants to gain hands-on experience and be better prepared to support their passengers’ communications needs.”

Satcom Direct has worked with FlightSafety International to train Gulfstream aircraft operators in Georgia since 2012.
