[Via Satellite 04-29-2014] Hughes has awarded a contract to SSL Digital, a subsidiary of Grupo Medcom, for 1,400 HX90 broadband satellite terminals. The terminals will offer digital video and signage content to Banorte-Ixe, the third largest bank in Mexico.

“Research shows that digital signage in banks influences customer purchase behavior, driving demand for new services such as online bill paying, direct deposit and new mortgages or refinancing,” said Nick Marzella, vice president of Latin America sales at Hughes.

SSL Digital will operate the network based on the Hughes HX System and will distribute training videos, advertising and other visual content to bank customers and employees. The terminals will be installed at more than 1,300 Banorte-Ixe locations, as well as corporate buildings. Hughes will provide local technical support for services such as network design and configuration from its Mexico City office.

The HX90 platform has the ability to deliver 60 Mbps of multicast throughput, which allows for the delivery of digital signage services to many locations efficiently.
