[Via Satellite 02-11-2014] SES has reached an agreement with Telefonica Global Solutions to enhance and extend Telefonica’s VIVO mobile voice and data services in the northern regions of Brazil.

Telefonica will use 290 MHz of C-band capacity aboard the SES NSS 7 satellite to provide VIVO mobile services in underserved cities and rural towns. VIVO voice and data offerings include high-speed broadband 3G, and will be delivered over SES capacity into urban hubs such as Macapá and Boa Vista to serve the region’s largest metropolitan areas. The C-band connectivity will also enable the delivery of VIVO services to isolated Amazon communities, opening up opportunities for economic development.

“The Telefonica Global Solutions-SES relationship is enabling people and businesses across Latin America to experience highly reliable, flexible and innovative content and connectivity services,” said Dolores Martos, VP of Latin America sales for SES. “VIVO consumers can enjoy top quality services, even in communities and regions of Brazil that — until now — were underserved and out of reach.”
