Intelsat Nets Two Service Agreements in Bulgaria

[Satellite TODAY 10-11-12] Satellite services provider Intelsat has signed agreements with Bulgarian DTT operator NURTS and national telecommunications provider Bulgarian Telecom (Vivacom) to distribute high-definition programing and enable digital terrestrial television (DTT), Intelsat announced Oct. 11.

Intelsat’s agreement with NURTS aims to contribute content to its terrestrial towers to support upcoming DTT services by using capacity on the Intelsat 12 satellite at 45 degrees East to reach transmitter sites in remote areas. NURTS provides media distribution services nationally and internationally to broadcasters and programmers, as well as terrestrial broadcasting for all national and regional Bulgarian television.
Vivacom has also signed a multi-year agreement to utilize Intelsat 12 to add high-definition programming to its DTH platform for its Bulgarian viewers. Vivacom is the only nationwide provider to offer Internet, digital television, mobile and fixed telephone services at a flat rate for Bulgarian customers.
“Intelsat has a long history of supporting DTT and DTH deployments throughout the globe,” Intelsat Europe and Middle East Regional Vice President of Sales Jean-Philippe Gillet said in a statement. "We offer unparalleled reliability and reach to NURTS and Vivacom, enabling them to grow their service offerings and access new customers. By hosting both DTT and DTH services, which complement each other with differentiated content, Intelsat 12 is clearly the satellite of choice for media distribution over Bulgaria.”
