Kratos’ OpenSpace ground system platform was used in a recent KT SAT demonstration that showed end-to-end connectivity across a native, multi-vendor 5G New Radio (5G NR) non-terrestrial network (NTN).

Kratos shared on Oct. 8 that the demonstration proved connectivity across a native 5G NR NTNT that consisted of an OpenSpace radio access network (RAN), Druid Software’s Raemis 5G Core and GCT Semiconductor Holding’s GDM7275X-based 5G user equipment. The integrated system was able to register with the Druid Raemis core to establish two-way communication and validate multi-vendor interoperability.

Kratos called the demonstration a step toward open, multi‑vendor 5G NTN deployment and intends for OpenSpace to give satellite operators flexibility.

“KT SAT is committed to advancing 5G NTN solutions in the satellite industry,” commented Sungho Choi, KT SAT CTO. “By bringing partners together and supporting this demonstration, we’re accelerating the ecosystem and proving that interoperable, multi‑vendor 5G systems are not just theoretical, they are happening now.”

Last year, Korean satellite operator KT SAT completed a NR-NTN multi-orbit handover between a commercial GEO satellite and an emulated LEO link in a lab trial, as part of its development on 5G NTN technologies.
