Speedcast has rolled out a new generation of its SIGMA network management solution with enhancements to address challenges in visibility, control, compliance, and security.

SIGMA is Speedcast’s network management solution that supports satellite services including Starlink, OneWeb, and other emerging constellations, alongside traditional connectivity options, and operationalizes multi-vendor enterprise SD-WAN and other applications.

The company said in a May 27 release that the new generation “enhances remote site visibility and control with smaller routing functions, expands hardware diversity while reducing costs, and drives greater automation for deployment and updates, which is essential for managing the growth of edge devices.”

It also has added network security for maritime fleet owners and operators to address new requirements from the International Association of Classification Societies’ (IACS) organization that deal with cybersecurity considerations for ships.

Speedcast’s Chief Product Officer Dee Schwalb commented that Speedcast took into account the needs and challenges of its customers’ remote operations, which informed the enhancements to the platform.

“The new architecture provides the backbone for our SIGMA marketplace, offering managed containerized or virtual machine deployments of applications that customers can leverage for their digital operations,” Schwalb commented. “We’ll be expanding the marketplace offerings in areas such as computer vision and video streaming, enhanced cybersecurity capabilities, and customer-selected VMs. This is the beginning of an era where customers can effortlessly add, manage and deploy complex solution sets securely throughout application lifecycles.”
