ThinKom and embedded computer technology company Kontron are collaborating on a Ka-band antenna for the aviation market, the companies announced Wednesday. The antenna combine’s Kontron’s ACE Flight 4783 dual modem Modman server integrated with ThinKom’s ThinAir Ka2517 phased-array antenna.
The antenna allows for interoperability between Geostationary Orbit (GEO) and Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) systems. In addition, the dual modem Modman supports server and networking-grade hardware with two satellite modems in a compact form, and can be be adjusted to support a third modem as well.
Kontron exec Tony Squeglia said this collaboration helps pave the way to an open platform approach for the in-flight connectivity market.
“By partnering with Kontron, this complete system enables airlines and integrators to quickly deploy a network-agnostic solution that offers an array of modem combinations, not only for today, but also for tomorrow,” commented Bill Milroy, CTO and chairman at ThinKom.
