[Via Satellite 12-11-2014] Intelsat chairman and CEO David McGlade is transitioning to the position of executive chairman, effective April 1, 2015, the company announced today. Stephen Spengler, president and chief commercial officer of Intelsat will succeed him, and has been appointed, effective immediately, as Deputy CEO.

Spengler’s promotion is part of Intelsat’s succession plan established prior to the company’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) in April 2013. He has close to 30 years of experience in the satellite and telecommunications industry, and has held several executive positions at Intelsat since 2003. Spengler led the development of the company’s global mobility network, as well as the EpicNG High Throughput Satellite (HTS) system, for which the first launch is slated for late 2015. Following his transition to executive chairman, McGlade will have served as CEO of Intelsat for 10 years.
