[Via Satellite 01-26-2015] Eutelsat has partnered with Neotion and Broadpeak on a global solution for Free-To-Air (FTA)/secured Over The Top (OTT) services for smartphones, tablets and 4K screens. The solution operates independently from IP infrastructure, making pay-TV options more accessible to mobile devices.

According to Neotion, the way traditional unicast-based Content Delivery Network (CDN) costs increase with the size of the audience makes satellite preferable after surpassing a few hundred thousand viewers. Satellite operational costs remain flat regardless of the number of users.

The combined solution uses Neotion’s DVBeacon platform, Broadpeak’s nanoCDN system and Eutelsat’s SmartLNB. The SmartLNB and IP multicast solutions can deliver OTT services by satellite with a broadcast service quality that remains consistent, independent of the available broadband infrastructure.
