Frontier Airlines and other Indigo Partners airlines will roll out SpaceX‘s Starlink in-flight connectivity (IFC) under a new deal announced Tuesday that covers more than 1,000 aircraft. This is Frontier’s first agreement for IFC, the budget airline does not currently offer Wi-Fi.
Indigo Partners is a private equity firm and its portfolio of low-cost airlines includes Frontier as well as Wizz Air in Europe, Volaris in Mexico, JetSMART in South America, and Cebu Pacific in the Philippines.
Frontier plans to launch its first Starlink-equipped aircraft in early 2027. Interestingly, Frontier said it will be the first to use a new passenger access system created by Starlink. Frontier currently operates around 176 Airbus A320 aircraft in its fleet.
The airline did not specify how the service will be made available to customers, whether free or paid.
Frontier CEO Jimmy Dempsey said this is an example of Frontier evolving its travel experience along with other decisions to introduce a first class cabin and improve its loyalty program.
“We’re continuing to invest in the products and services that matter most to our customers,” said Frontier CEO Jimmy Dempsey. “Starlink transforms the onboard experience, giving customers the flexibility to work, stream, browse, and stay connected throughout their journey.”
