Israel’s national airline El Al will adopt SpaceX‘s Starlink in-flight connectivity (IFC). The airline said it is signing an agreement with Starlink, and service will be rolled out gradually, beginning next year.
El Al shared the news in a post on X on Monday that was light on details, like whether or not the service will be free for customers, or a more specific rollout schedule.
El Al has worked with Viasat for IFC and launched Viasat in-flight Wi-Fi service on transatlantic flights in 2019.
“We continue to invest in the most advanced products and services in order to enhance your travel experience, from the ground to the air,” El AL said in a statement.
This announcement comes after El Al had a tough first quarter due to the conflict in Iran and subsequent airport shutdowns in Israel.
The Israeli airline operates an all-Boeing fleet of around 46 aircraft, according to its current fleet information. It is in the process of a fleet renewal, order additional Boeing Dreamliner planes in April.
El Al’s Dreamliner fleet is expected to grow from 17 aircraft today to 28 aircraft by the end of the decade, with the potential to expand further to up to 34 aircraft,
