Caribe Tankers: Caribe Luna vessel

Shipping company Caribe Tankers USA will trial Inmarsat Maritme’s NexusWave managed connectivity service. Caribe Tankers will trial the service on its chemical tankers Caribe Maria and Caribe Luna. Inmarsat Maritime, which is owned by Viasat, announced the deal on April 15.

Inmarsat Maritime introduced NexusWave last year as a managed service that integrates its existing Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band network with Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) services, coastal LTE services, and an additional layer of satellite L-band. It combines multiple network underlays in one fully managed, bonded solution,

Inmarsat recently signed NexusWave deals with Japanese tuna carrier Toei Reefer Line and Norwegian shipping company Solvang

The decision to trial Inmarsat NexusWave reflects Caribe Tankers’ requirements for connectivity to support crew welfare, and communication services for daily operational needs.

Jason Holden, CTU manager, commented: “As a 24/7 commercial and operational shipping management company, we understand the importance of being able to communicate at any time to and from the vessels for business demands. More importantly, providing crew fast and reliable internet has notably improved productivity on board.”
