Another major European airline selects SpaceX and Starlink for in-flight connectivity (IFC) services. Scandinavian Airlines, SAS, is introducing a new free, high-speed Wi-Fi service through a new partnership with Starlink. SAS announced the move to Starlink on Jan. 27.
SAS plans to begin the phased rollout on its entire fleet at the end of 2025. The company said Starlink will be available for passengers in all travel classes for free. The airline noted that passengers will be able to enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity from the moment they board until they disembark, calling it a “significant improvement” over the current systems that activate after takeoff and disconnect during descent.
“We’re putting an end to frustrating interruptions and ushering in a new era of connectivity. Whether flying over the Atlantic or the North Sea, our passengers can now count on a connection that is as stable and seamless as it is fast. This is about giving our customers the best and ensuring SAS remains synonymous with excellence,” Paul Verhagen, chief commercial officer of SAS, said in a statement.
Last year, Air France made the move to adopt Starlink IFC and airBaltic uses the service as well.
