Moog has completed a large manufacturing facility expansion at its headquarters in East Aurora, New York, to support its work on a number of launch vehicle programs.

Moog designs and builds precision actuation and avionics systems that control and steer launchers. The new facility announced Monday brings together development, production, and testing of electromechanical, electrohydrostatic, and electrohydraulic actuation systems for the space market in one location.

The recently completed construction includes areas for electromechanical actuation (EMA) assembly and test work, thermal and vibration environmental testing, and enhanced inspection and office spaces. Moog said this investment in its manufacturing facilities will improve quality and lead times.

Moog’s technology supports several launch vehicles for the U.S. Navy, Stratolaunch’s Talon A hypersonic test vehicle, United Launch Alliance’s Vulcan rocket, and NASA’s Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft.

Construction is also underway on a new hydraulic actuation assembly and test area and a new development lab. Moog said that when it is completed, the 120,000-square-foot facility will be the largest Moog site focused on its space portfolio.

“This focused factory reflects a major investment in a sustainable future at Moog, expanding our ability to deliver innovative, mission-critical solutions for aerospace and defense customers,” said Jonathan Kasper, operations transformation manager.
