EchoStar XXVI Rendering by EchoStar
Satellite operator EchoStar selected the prime contractor for its upcoming EchoStar XXVI high-power geostationary communications satellite, which is scheduled to provide direct-to-home (DTH) coverage to DISH TV customers across the United States and Puerto Rico. The company confirmed Monday that it chose Maxar Space Systems to design the new spacecraft based on the Maxar 1300 platform.
Maxar Space Systems said it would deliver EchoStar XXVI to the operator in 2028. The satellite will be designed for dual orbital slot performance, giving EchoStar the ability to alter coverage if needed.
EchoStar and Maxar Space Systems have a history of satellite orders. EchoStar ordered its previous GEO satellite, EchoStar XXV, from Maxar in 2023. That satellite, also based on the Maxar 1300 platform, is still waiting to be launched.
“EchoStar’s selection of the Maxar 1300 platform underscores our commitment to delivering high-performance satellites that meet our customers’ most demanding requirements,” said Chris Johnson, CEO, Maxar Space Systems. “We’re proud to continue supporting EchoStar’s mission with another spacecraft that offers the proven reliability that Maxar Space Systems is known for in the industry.”
“EchoStar is committed to delivering an unmatched experience with DISH TV,” said Gunter Kamper, SVP of DISH Technologies, EchoStar Corporation. “Our ongoing investments across the board—especially with EchoStar XXVI—will ensure long-term access to our award-winning, satellite entertainment platform. Maxar Space Systems has been, and remains, a trusted partner in this mission.”
