Rocket Lab signed a contract for a dedicated Electron launch for Orora Technologies (OroraTech), a German wildfire-detection startup, Rocket Lab announced Jan. 22. The launch is set to deploy eight satellites, within four months from launch contract signing.

OroraTech is developing a constellation of satellites with cameras to provide 24/7 monitoring of wildfires globally. The mission will deploy its latest plane of satellites called OTC-P1 to OroraTech’s current constellation. OroraTech plans to expand the constellation with up to 100 satellites by 2028.

Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck commented: “Knowing that time is of the essence to get these satellites in space, we’re proud to be rising to the challenge and supporting the OroraTech mission to better monitor for and protect against these devastating natural disasters globally.”

This is OroraTech’s first launch contract with Rocket Lab.

The contract comes after OroraTech raised $27 million in October 2024 for its constellation. The Series B funding was set to improve OroraTech’s wildfire detection technology and expand the company’s market for wildfire management.

This launch adds to Rocket Lab’s 2025 manifest, which includes contracts with Synspective, Kineis, and BlackSky, a U.S. Space Force mission and the debut of the Neutron rocket.
