Planet has signed a multi-year contract expansion with Colombia’s government entity responsible for geographic data to continue to use Planet’s technology for land management, adding AI capabilities to track change management in roads and buildings.
With the expanded contract announced July 17, Colombia’s Instituto Geográfico Agustín Codazzi, IGAC, will now have access to the Planet Insights platform and AI-powered change detection for roads and buildings. The AI change analysis will allow IGAC to monitor infrastructure, urban planning, and land use over time. IGAC also has access to tasking Planet’s SkySat satellites, PlanetScope Monitoring, and the company’s education and research offerings for governments. Financial terms of the extension were not disclosed.
Planet’s data and services will support IGAC’s work to enforce regulations, monitor risks like floods and landslides, and conduct land management. Planet’s geospatial intelligence partner Procalculo also supports the work for IGAC, and Planet has worked with IGAC since 2023.
“Planet offers a unique combination of satellite data and analytical capabilities that we can integrate into our national management systems to provide decision-makers with up-to-date data and information that ensure reliable insights about the territory,” said Anderson Puentes Carvajal, director of IGAC Geographic Information Management Directorate.
Planet’s leadership recently explained that its AI-enabled solutions are contributing to an increase in business with governments and defense entities around the world.
