Iridium is making an undisclosed investment in DDK Positioning (DDK), which offers Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) accuracy solutions.

DDK is a Scotland-based company that uses the Iridium network to provide high precision GPS that can increase the accuracy of GNSS constellations like GPS and Galileo. Iridium reports that DDK’s augmentation service can increase the accuracy of positioning from 10 meters to 5 centimeters or less. The company said this is applicable for use cases like autonomous vehicles and driverless cars, precision agriculture, and infrastructure.

DDK CEO Kevin Gaffney said the investment will allow the company to grow and expand service globally.

Iridium CEO Matt Desch commented: “We are impressed with the team that DDK has put together and see great potential for this technology and how it takes advantage of the Iridium network. DDK’s enhanced positioning is a unique capability that adds a high-value solution on top of our existing portfolio of custom network services.”
