Viasat has integrated the Global Xpress satellite fleet from Inmarsat, its Ka-band satellites, and partner satellites into a unified Ka-band network for government and military users, the company announced Monday. The network is also fully interoperable with MILSATCOM Ka-band networks.
The Global Xpress Ka-band satellites have been part of Viasat since the 2023 acquisition. This unified network also includes the new and upcoming ViaSat-3 satellites, the second of which launched last month.
Viasat said the unified network leverages an integrated waveform, upgraded gateways and common ground architecture. Moving forward, government users will be able to access this network through upgraded, single terminal solutions rather than multiple hardware solutions.
The operator said the Ka-band network is able to provide government users ubiquitous roaming and data rates up to 200 Mbps with a 45 cm or equivalent antenna.
“By unifying our Ka-band satellites into a single next-generation network, we are delivering the resilient, secure, and high-capacity connectivity that government missions demand around the world,” said Victor Farah, senior vice president of Government Services and Solutions at Viasat. “This advancement reflects our commitment to providing trusted, user-centric communication services that give warfighters the global reach and information advantage they require in today’s increasingly contested environments.”
