NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) has selected Globecomm Systems as the prime contractor for a next-generation satellite modem program. Globecomm will deliver qualified solutions based on the Datum Systems M7XC software-defined satellite modem.

The Datum M7XC modem is designed for multi-orbit capability and software-selectable waveforms in a ruggedized form factor. The companies said these software-defined modems will be a marked increase in capability in NATO’s Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satcom capabilities over currently fielded equipment and account for long-term interoperability.

Globecomm, a subsidiary of UltiSat, has a strategic partnership with Datum Systems, which provides troposcatter communications modems.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of the NATO community, enabling technologies such as transmission security (TRANSEC), direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) and multi-carrier operations in a single modem platform provides NATO members security and flexibility on a wide variety of missions,” said Lou Dubin, vice president of Datum Systems.
