SES Space & Defense has been awarded a $89.6 million contract from the U.S. Army for commercial satcom services. The five-year Sustainment Tactical Network (STN) contract announced Monday is for Ku-band Geostationary (GEO) satellite service and commercial teleport services.

The previous iteration of STN was known as Wideband Enterprise Satellite Systems (WESS) Comsatcom Network (WCN), and SES Space & Defense was a provider on that contract.

The contract will use commercial teleport and equipment to support commercial satcom links for Combat Service Support, Department of Defense (DoD) programs, and U.S. Government agencies. SES said the service provides connectivity across teleports and the Global Network Centers (GNC), along with the terrestrial network for the system.

“This award is a significant milestone for SES Space & Defense and reconfirms our commitment to delivering interoperable and secure satellite services to the U.S. Army. We are proud to continue providing advanced global end-to-end comstacom capabilities giving the U.S. Army a decisive information advantage,” David Broadbent, president and CEO of SES Space & Defense commented.
