General Dynamics Building Ground Stations for Canadian Access to WGS Constellation

      [Via Satellite 11-14-2014] General Dynamics Canada has received a contract worth more than $52 million for the Mercury Global Project, through which Canada will participate in the United States’ Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) constellation. The Mercury Global Project provides Canadian Armed Forces with access to secure military satcom. General Dynamics Canada is tasked with building seven ground stations throughout the country. General Dynamics C4 Systems Satcom Technologies will manufacture the antennas for each ground station.

      General Dynamics Canada also received a support contract worth $7.5 million. Through this agreement, the company will provide 24/7 monitoring, help desk, repair, overhaul and other in-service support for 17 years.
