[Satellite TODAY 10-03-12] Video communications technologies provider Vislink International had rolled out a new lightweight satellite data terminal for military operations, the company announced Oct. 3.
Vislink designed the rugged Mantis MSAT terminal to be deployed from a single lightweight backpack for one-man operation in challenging operational environments. The terminal can operate in X-, Ka- and Ku-band and is currently undergoing field trials for battlefield, command center and special operations implementations. Vislink said the company is already filling initial military orders.
“MSAT meets the exacting, high-bandwidth, connectivity requirements now demanded by forces around the world to address an increasingly difficult operating environment,” Vislink CEO Stephen Rudd said in a statement. “At only 27.5 lbs (12.5kg) it is the lightest satellite data terminal on the market and compliments a range of manned and unmanned solutions Vislink already provides for land, sea and air based communications and surveillance.”
