L-3 Communications Holdings subsidiary L-3 Global Communications Solutions has inked an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to provide portable satellite-communications gear to the Pentagon for more than five years with a potential value of up to $500 million, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed June 21.
   According to an announcement in the U.S. military’s daily contract digest, the minimum guaranteed contract value to L-3 Global Communications Solutions is $7.6 million. The portable satellite-communications gear will be provided to U.S. Special Forces in operation.
   L-3 Global Communications Systems President Bob Jacobson said his company expects to begin delivering its Hawkeye 3 hardware later this year. “We are currently ramping up our engineering and production capabilities to meet our customers’ objectives,” Jacobson said.
