[Satellite TODAY 02-18-11] TeleCommunication Systems (TCS) was selected by Cisco Systems to operate its Cisco Internet Routing in Space (IRIS) solution on the Intelsat IS-14 satellite, TCS announced Feb. 18.
IRIS uses Cisco’s 18400 Space Router, which will allow organizations to reach multiple continents from a single connection to TCS’ network infrastructure. TCS also will provide increased bandwidth optimization and application flexibility to the end-to-end Cisco IP.
In a statement, Cisco Global Government Solution Vice President Steven Boutelle said the companies would target deployed solutions to government and commercial markets. "Cisco IRIS technology will transform how government agencies and commercial organizations use IP-based network services to accomplish their objectives. This is another milestone in the long-term collaboration between TCS and Cisco. We look forward to working together to continue to advance and refine this technology."
