[Satellite Today 3-26-08] Lockheed Martin completed static load testing of the first Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellite, the company announced March 26.
The test, which validated the satellite’s strength and ability to sustain its launch weight of more than 13,000 pounds, demonstrated that the structure can carry the physical loads it will experience during manufacturing, launch and operation.
The first MUOS satellite, along with the associated ground system, is scheduled for on-orbit hand over to the Navy in 2010.
