Impulse Space has raised another massive funding round, of $500 million in Series D funding announced on Tuesday. 137 Ventures and Banner VC led the round. The company says this money will support building the full spectrum space mobility infrastructure.
This comes just one year after Impulse raised $300 million in a Series C. The company has raised more than $1 billion in total. Founder’s Fund, Lux Capital, and Linse Capital also participated in the latest round.
The company has flown multiple missions of its Mira maneuvering spacecraft, and is building the Helios kick stage, as well as the Caravan rideshare program to GEO and plans for lunar cargo service. It was also recently named as a collaborator on Anduril Industries’ team to prototype technologies for space-based interceptors.
Impulse Space says it has doubled its headcount over the past year and plans to use the capital to further expand its team and manufacturing capacity. The company currently has 131 open positions right now.
Impulse Space was founded by Tom Mueller in 2021. Mueller who was a founding member of SpaceX and designed the Merlin engine.
“Tom helped transform access to space at SpaceX, and now he’s tackling the industry’s next major challenge: in-space mobility,” said Justin Fishner-Wolfson, Managing Partner at 137 Ventures. “At 137, we invest in generational technology companies that redefine existing industries. We see that potential in Impulse. Mobility in space is strategic and will define the next phase of the space economy, and Impulse is building the infrastructure to make that possible.”
