UNIO Enterprise has been acquired by OrbitsIQ Global (OIQ) in an interesting piece of pan-European consolidation. The acquisition aims to combine UNIO’s connectivity software with OIQ’s vision to seamlessly integrate satellite and terrestrial networks with mobile assets. The two companies announced the deal, Sept. 2.
UNIO, a Munich-based company, is aiming to solve the challenge of unreliable connectivity for vehicles and mobile applications by merging terrestrial cellular and satellite networks through its intelligent UNIO Move B2B solution. This aims to enable real-time, uninterrupted digital access for connected mobility.
UNIO was founded in 2022 as a joint venture of Isar Aerospace, Reflex Aerospace, Mynaric, and SES. The company filed for insolvency last year and was then acquired by an unnamed partner in February.
OIQ describes its focus as working to build a “ubiquitous bridge across terrestrial cellular and space-based connectivity, delivering uninterrupted services to fixed and mobile assets such as cars, boats, planes and autonomous systems.”
The company was founded last year and is headquartered in Luxembourg with international offices, including in the United States. It is led by CEO Joe Euteneuer, a telecom and media executive who is the former co-CEO of Rivada Networks and has served as CFO for Sprint Corporation and XM Satellite Radio.
“Joining OIQ Global marks a turning point for UNIO. With our connectivity expertise and OIQ’s constellation vision, we will redefine how mobility assets connect. This partnership allows us to accelerate our roadmap and deliver the next generation of intelligent connectivity across terrestrial and satellite networks for industries such as automotive, agriculture, logistics and maritime sectors,” Katrin Bacic, CEO of UNIO Enterprise, said in a statement.
