New Eclipse Satellite Platforms Target D2D, Broadband, and Computing

Eclipse Space, a new megaconstellation startup, announced a lineup of satellite platforms on Wednesday geared toward direct-to-device (D2D), broadband, and on-orbit computing. 

Eclipse Space was founded by a group of SpaceX alums and emerged from stealth mode earlier this summer with a business model aimed at helping governments, operators, and commercial entities own their own satellite infrastructure. In Eclipse’s business model, the company designs and integrates the satellites, payloads, ground infrastructure, launch, and operations for the customer’s independent constellation. 

Wednesday, the company announced three spacecraft: CitraSat for direct-to-device; SliceSat for high-throughput broadband; and SurgeSat for high-performance computing and sovereign data. 

CitraSat is a flat-stack bus with a 3.5-meter S-band phased array, E-band backhaul for ground connectivity, and V-band inter-satellite links.

SliceSat is also designed to stack for launch. It has a flat-panel architecture with four Ku-band phased arrays, multi-Gbps V/E-band feeder links and V-band inter-satellite connectivity.

SurgeSat is designed on the same core platform, as well as 100 kW-class power in order to enable large-scale AI and compute workloads.
