The two companies hope to enable a number of new use cases in fields such as agriculture, maritime, transport and logistics, energy and utilities, energy and utilities and environment and wildlife. Sateliot and Telenor IoT said successful field tests in Spain showed that Telenor IoT SIM cards can stay connected to Sateliot’s satellite network for extended periods, proving reliable and secure connectivity. The alliance will continue to expand with tests in several countries.
Sateliot’s technology is one of the first satellite networks built to work seamlessly with the standard NB‑IoT devices that companies also use on the ground. Sateliot’s LEO satellites follow the 3GPP Release 17 5G non‑terrestrial network (NTN) standard. This enables devices to connect to satellites without any modifications, custom antennas, or special firmware (provided the devices support this 3GPP release). The company recently signed a similar IoT agreement with Telefónica España in Spain.
