IoT provider Semtech has integrated Skylo’s satellite network into its platform, to offer a complete device-to-cloud terrestrial and satellite IoT solution from a single provider. The companies announced the integrated offering on Oct. 9, saying it automatically switches between terrestrial and satellite networks for continuous connectivity when IoT devices leave the range of cellular towers. This integration makes it possible to simplify global IoT deployment to one SIM and one contract.

“Semtech is our first partner to deliver Skylo-certified modules with integrated network access,” said Tarun Gupta, chief product officer and co-founder at Skylo. “By integrating Skylo’s satellite network directly into Semtech’s Smart Connectivity platform, we’re making NTN IoT as simple as ordering a traditional cellular solution.”

Semtech explained the solution features its HL7810 LPWA module supporting LTE-M, NB-IoT and NTN connections, with the HL7812 adding 2G fallback capability. Combined with Semtech’s Smart Connectivity Premium SIM, the solution offers access to more than 600 4G LTE and 5G partner networks and Skylo’s satellite NTN.

Semtech is currently testing the solution with qualifying customers and preparing for general availability in November.
