Italian satellite IoT company Apogeo Space is looking to enter the Latin American market with a new agreement with Telespazio Brasil. The companies said Wednesday they have a shared goal of bringing alternative satellite connectivity solutions to underserved areas.
Apogeo Space said the agreement will help it test strategies and access to the local market, with a particular focus on the needs of the public and industrial sectors in areas with low coverage.
Apogeo Space is building a constellation of picosatellites less than 1 kg in weight for IoT services. The company has launched 11 flight test satellites and then a batch of nine picosatellites in August of 2024 that are currently operational for proof-of-concept projects in Argentina, Algeria, Europe, and other strategic markets. It is working toward a constellation of 96 satellites.
Its services fit into Telespazio’s strategy to expand its IoT telemetry portfolio, targeting key sectors such as public services, oil and gas, agriculture and security. Telespazio Brasil is the Brazilian subsidiary of Italian space company Telespazio.
“This agreement represents an important, solid and qualified gateway to South America for us,” said Apogeo Space CEO and co-founder Guido Parissenti. “Satellite IoT services can offer concrete solutions in remote contexts, supporting sectors such as the environment, agriculture, energy and infrastructure.”
