Viasat is launching a managed satellite connectivity service designed for remote oil and gas customers in the energy industry. The enterprise-grade managed service announced Tuesday will integrate Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) with existing multi-orbit and terrestrial capacity.
Viasat said it is designed for energy customers like oil and gas operators, drilling contractors, and service companies. The enhanced service in the Energy Services division is expected to be available early in the third quarter of this year.
It is designed to support cloud-based computing services for operational efficiency and safety and crew welfare. It will also incorporate cybersecurity features and Viasat’s operational artificial intelligence software and machine learning platform, Intelie.
“Our energy customers are looking to solve complex challenges and operate more safely, efficiently, and sustainably,” said Lee Ahlstrom, president of Viasat Energy Services. “This enhanced hybrid network service offering will allow customers to improve operational efficiency and support their most advanced digital transformation efforts in the future.”
Viasat recently announced another managed service offering incorporating LEO for another vertical, NexusWave for maritime customers, through Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company.
