Astranis will build a dedicated MicroGEO satellite for Argentine internet service provider (ISP) Orbith, the company announced this week.

The satellite is set to launch in 2025 as part of Astranis’s third launch. Astranis said that with this deal, its next two launches of MicroGEO satellites are sold out. Astranis also received an order from Thai satcom operator Thaicom

Orbith provides communications services across Latin America, serving hospitals, schools, businesses, and consumers. The company currently leases capacity from existing Geostationary Orbit (GEO) players, and this will give the company a dedicated satellite.

Orbith CEO Pablo Mosiul commented: “This dedicated MicroGEO communications satellite from Astranis will be a massive accelerator for our plans in Argentina. Having a satellite specifically tailored to our needs, and to the demand that we see from our customers in the country, is a massive competitive advantage that will help us expand our coverage across the country.”

Astranis CEO John Gedmark said this week during SATELLITE that Astranis plans to put up more GEO satellites in the next few years than the rest of the industry combined.
