Liquid Intelligent Technologies signed a multi-year deal with Eutelsat Communications for capacity on the Konnect Satellite to support customers in Uganda, South Sudan, and the Eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Under the agreement announced Thursday, Liquid will leverage capacity on the satellite to provide affordable internet services in territories underserved by terrestrial networks, supporting small and medium enterprises and small office customers. Liquid will also host the first Eutelsat Konnect ground gateway in Sub-Saharan Africa, located in Krugersdorp, South Africa. Eutelsat said this gateway will expand local coverage.

“We offer satellite services in over 27 African countries, impacting the lives of over 1.3 billion people. With this agreement, we will expand our service portfolio to include Ka-band services for the first time. We have always been early innovators and investors towards initiatives and technology that will help us realize our vision of creating a digitally connected future that leaves no African behind,” said Scott Mumford, CEO of Liquid Satellite Services.

Eutelsat’s Konnect satellite is key to its fixed broadband connectivity strategy. Eutelsat has signed a number of wholesale and distribution agreements for the satellite in Africa including with TelOne in Zimbabwe, Vodacom in  Tanzania, Vox in South Africa, and Intersat in Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Senegal.
