Eutelsat Signs Capacity Deal to Support Tuvalu Islands

Eutelsat has signed a deal which will see satellite used extend corporate networks for government offices and key enterprises of the Tuvalu Islands. Under the terms of this multi-year agreement announced May 10, Tuvalu Telecommunications Corporation (TTC) will use capacity on the Eutelsat 172B satellite to fulfil its commitment to bridge the digital divide in isolated areas. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

TTC is a state-owned enterprise and the sole provider of telecommunications in Tuvalu. It provides telecoms and information, communication, and technology services to subscribers on each of the islands and atolls of Tuvalu. The Tuvalu Islands are in the South Pacific and have a population of around 12,000 people.

“Satellites are extremely well adapted to connect islands that are, by their very definition, cut off and isolated from terrestrial networks. We are delighted to be able to work with Eutelsat to bring this much awaited connectivity service into our Islands, that will push the development of Tuvalu forward,” Tenanoia Simona, CEO of TTC said in statement.
