While SpaceX and OneWeb intend to expand internet coverage from Low Earth Orbit (LEO), NewSpace startup Astranis plans to launch broadband smallsats into traditional Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO). According to one of its founders, the company isn’t out to solve GEO satellites’ latency issues — instead, it hopes to help connect remote areas by selling high-speed internet to local Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
